Recently I have heard God speak through many that breakthrough is coming. Many, including myself, have been clinging to this! The promise of breakthrough. Whether in finances, health, relationships, personal struggles or whatever the case may be, many are awaiting breakthrough. Most mornings I wake up and before I get out of bed I pray.
Today was no different! However, my prayer was. You see typically my morning prayers are for my loved ones and leaders as they go through their day. For protection, guidance and wisdom and for God to make His presence known in the midst of their day. This morning, as I was praying I was praying for one family particularly and asked God why breakthrough has not yet come. That He promised breakthrough and I just didn’t understand His timing and I asked Him to help me understand. And you know what happened? He did just that!
I heard the Lord reply, “What if my breakthrough isn’t one big thing? What if it isn’t instant? (And let’s be honest, it rarely is.) What if my breakthrough is found in the day-to-day? What if my breakthrough is in teaching you to count your blessings more than your curses? What if my breakthrough is in teaching you to see that even in the midst of chaos I am present and I am working and to listen for my whisper? What if my breakthrough is found in thankfulness ringing louder than defeat and discouragement? What if the big thing you are waiting on is being worked out in all of the little details of your day-to-day life?”
Do you ever wonder how many little things we miss? David says in Psalms 37:23 that God directs the path of the godly and He delights in every detail of our lives. Strong’s concordance says He delights “in the way” the original word is “derek” and breaks down to mean “the way, the road, the distance, the journey and the manner.” But do we notice these things? Do we stop to ponder the way God is moving, the manner in which He may want to do it, the road we are on, that He has good reason for the distance and to really enjoy this journey with Him? Are we as plugged into God as we could be? Are we aware of what He is doing in the moments of our days?
Today, I challenge you to count your blessings! To stop and ponder where God is moving in each and every situation and to truly listen for His whisper. Rarely does God change circumstance. Often He will use circumstance to change our hearts and make us more aware of what is going on within.
